Every 1st Saturday of the month Home Depot does free crafts for kids in the mornings. We have been going the last 4 months since we discovered this fun, free family activity! This month the girls made wooden bug houses I guess you could call them. They have little doors on the sides where you can put bugs in and out. The crafts are always so fun because the girls get to paint the wood and assemble the projects themselves with hammers, screws, nails or whatever it calls for. So they get to experience working with wood. So of course this was not a very exciting craft for me cuz I really don't appreciate bugs WHATSOEVER... so Ian went outside and found the girls each a grasshopper! That was about the only thing I'd allow besides a ladybug. Kira had a real big green one and Zoey had a really little baby yellow one. Ian would put wet leaves inside their houses so they'd have food and water and we managed to keep them both alive for about 3 weeks! They were pretty good at freaking us out though because they would be really still and then they would try to hop or flutter around and when they would move it would scare us! It is pretty funny around here for 4 girls when Ian's not home and there's a bug in the house. We have recently woken up to find a little tiny baby lizard on our kitchen floor. Lizards are better then the slugs that used to crawl in from the flower bed by the back door though!!! Thanks to Ian and Caleb for fixing THAT problem!!! UGGGGHHH. I thought it was really funny though because all the time we had these grasshoppers, the girls kept calling them their crickets. haha. Ian said as he was letting them go so they could be free he felt really thankful to these two little grasshoppers for giving our kids such a fun experience and happiness. :)
